Game Recap: Wolfhounds Hold Off FDNY's Bravest in Hard-Fought Battle
POMONA, NY (August 26, 2023) – The Irish Wolfhounds Baseball Club returned Clover Stadium in Rockland County, NY, to take on the FDNY's Bravest Baseball Club.
The festivities began a few minutes before game time, with Siobhan Noonan's thrilling renditions of the Irish and American national anthems. The anthems were followed by the ceremonial first pitch, thrown by filmmaker Katreana Bellew.
And then, it was time to play ball!
The visiting Irish jumped out to a quick lead, thanks to a two-out, two-RBI double by first baseman Brian McAuliffe. Meanwhile, Irish starting pitcher Ryan O'Rourke retired the side in order. After one inning, the Wolfhounds led by a score of 2-0.
The Wolfhounds increased the lead to 4-0 in the third inning, thanks to sacrifice flies from David Gallagher and Tommy Dunleavy.
In the bottom of the third inning, FDNY shortstop Ryan Luebcke's solo home run cut the Irish lead to 4-1. The FDNY scored again in the seventh inning, on Joe Ginnobi's RBI single. Heading into the eighth inning, the Wolfhounds led by a score of 4-2.
Wolfhounds pitcher Mitch Hillert, who started each of the team's previous games, came in to close it out with two scoreless innings.
